The Shark's Tooth - Week of June 1, 2008

Hi everyone, well summer is here and the heat is on. We have had some great workouts lately and I hope you are all getting excited about going to DC! In this newsletter we will talk about the summer schedule changes. IGLA, open water challenge and remaining meets. So here we go…

Practice schedule changes. Beginning June Monday June 9 summer hours go into effect. THIS WILL ONLY AFFECT EVENING PRACTICES…. MORNING WORKOUTS WILL STAY THE SAME….
MONDAYS       8-9:30PM   SUNRISE
Tuesday/THURSDAYS         6:30-800PM       POMPANO

No clinics. This wed, will be the last clinic.
These hours will be in effect till school starts back up. I consider us lucky because we will have more cold water this summer up in pompano……

IGLA
Today is your last chance to sign up and do any changes. You must make your reservations at this point. We have the largest ever travel team leaving this state going to a meet ever, right now it looks like 75 people are going from us, gold, and the nadds. What an effort by all. We really do have a chance to repeat as large team overall champions. We have more women than ever going and this is great. We are better than dc in the Quality area, but we just have to be close in #’ of swimmers. If we are within 15 swimmers of them we can do this. But it will take everyone doing their best. Jon Olsen, Drew stoudt and I are planning out the relays this next week. Please, please, please if you are not going let us know. We will have over 74 relays to plan, this is a great undertaking. It is a real PAIN IN THE ASS> you not showing up screws everything. Be on time 1 hour early for any relay. I mean this, if you have ever gone to a big meet with me I take it very seriously. Do NOT PISS ME OFF please by sleeping in, tricking out. You are part of a team and an adult. Swim first, swim fast, and have fun later.
Each of you has worked very hard this year harder than ever, and I hope the results will show. I am trying to plan a team Florida dinner on wed night, June 17, so please be there if possible being part of this team is an honor and you have all of south Florida watching and wondering was it a fluke last year In Paris. I do not think so! We swam our hearts out and we can do it again. Being champions carries responsibility, so let’s repeat and Kick some butt in DC. Go Hammerheads, go team Florida…… You are the bulk of this team, and you are ready to fly. So just “step out of the ordinary” I know you can…

There will be workouts while we are in dc. Workout is as follows. Thursday night pomp. 630

Meyers beach we had an Florida gold coast LMSC vs. Florida Lmsc open water mile team challenge, Well I want to tell you that the Hammerheads went their in style and scored the bulk of the points for the LMSC to win the team title…Starting off with Jon Olsen taking 2nd overall and 1st in the men’s 45 t, then sean frampton 3rd overall,2nd 44 under, then dave leclair 4th, bill korey 5th, Jarrod gac 6th , yours truly , Yes I did a mile in the ocean ( I hate it) 17th and Scott Woodburn 24th and Ceaser 38th, the men won 55-20, and in the ladies, Andrea woodburn 3rd overall, and dale leclair 4th, the ladies lost 29-21 but we won the team title        76-41… Way to go hammerheads….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Awesome swimming.

Remaining meets, please refer to the website, for the remaining summer meets, the week after IGLA is the June Krauser classic at the hall of fame, it is a local meet long course, if you can you will be coming off a taper and should swim well, please enter to honor a great woman in swimming.

Well all I can say left is remember to diet, your yardage is coming down stay off the sweets, and Carbs. Get some rest you will need it, stop the weights, it is time for the body to become a super human thing, so I know you can, look in that mirror each day and believe in yourself, your team, and your coaches.

See ya at the pool,

Coach John and Scott
